Daniel Rawson of Raw Design explains how beautiful,
hand-crafted furniture can enhance people’s lives

The ethos at Raw Design is simple. We are driven by our passion for design and craftsmanship. We don’t take ourselves too seriously (important in Hackney!) but we do take good design seriously.

Well proportioned and beautifully made furniture enhance’s peoples lives, whether it’s a stunning centrepiece in a beautiful room, fitted furniture that’s tailored to a client’s specific needs, or a combination of both.

After graduating with a furniture design degree I gained a wealth of technical and practical skills while working as a furniture designer-maker. Five years ago I founded the company with the sole aim of creating beautiful furniture. I work from my compact workshop near Victoria Park with my colleague (also Daniel) and I handcraft a wide variety of freestanding furniture, fitted furniture and handmade kitchens.

I’ve also designed and made some unusual pieces. A wall mirror that hides a secret door into a room, an industrial steel and glass fitted wardrobe and I’m currently making six solid oak cigar cases.

The secret to delivering a successful commission is a combination of working closely and listening intently to each client – from the initial ideas consultation to the making and finishing. Working togeBusinessFeatures_DRawson3ther throughout the whole process helps me to achieve their vision and make ideas come to life.

Commissioning a one-off piece is an investment which will hold its value, especially if it’s unique. For some, the thought of bespoke furniture can seem expensive and daunting, but many clients have been pleasantly surprised that I’ve been able to make a piece fit a space in their home and keep within budget.

Taking advantage of our individual skill sets and vast materials knowledge means we can provide clients with a wide variety of furniture solutions for most applications.
